Spray This Oil And You Will Never See Mold Again !

One of my least favorite household chores is cleaning my shower. I’m embarrassed to say I wait as long as possible, which is probably why I don’t like doing it! I need to be more vigilant about a good weekly cleaning. One reason I detest the chore is because we have really, really hard water and it can be very hard to scrub off all the soap scum and hard-water buildup.

That coupled with not having a window in my bathroom, means my shower is more susceptible to mold and mildew. Ugh. I hate even talking about this! But you get it, right? We all have our particular cleaning nemeses and mold and mildew are mine.

I stopped using bleach to clean mold and mildew last year. In our previous home, the basement bathroom could get nasty quickly. I had a mold specialist come over and check to make sure it wasn’t dangerous to our health. It was impossible to keep on top of it even with weekly cleanings. Anyway, he told me not to use bleach anymore because it only kills surface mold and causes it to come back bigger and badder than before.

Now, I don’t know if that’s true or not. He recommended a really expensive antimicrobial spray. And I thought, “There has to be a better, cheaper, and more effective natural solution.” So I did a ton of research and do you know what I finally landed on? White vinegar. As plain and cheap as can be! Adding tea tree oil give is an extra antifungal boost, and the orange oil to this DIY mold and mildew spray makes it smell nice.

DIY: Mold + Mildew Spray
All you need is :

INGREDIENTS :

2 cups white vinegar
1 Teaspoon tea tree oil
10 drops orange essential oil

INSTRUCTIONS:

1-All you do is fill up an empty spray bottle with white vinegar, add the tea tree and orange oil, shake it up, and start spraying.

2-Completely non-toxic, safe and inexpensive. Three things I like the cleaners I use in my home to be. One last thing, you might need to let the vinegar sit for a while if there’s a big buildup.

  1. After mixing and spraying on the white vinegar, tea tree oil, and orange essential oil for mold removal, are we to wipe the area with a damp cloth?

    • Of course, You can use a towel to wipe it off.

      • So yes to wiping off? How long Should I let mix set before wiping? Should towel be tossed? If not wiped off will it leave a stain?

        • I would like to know how long to let it sit before wiping as well. If I wipe too soon it might not work. If I wipe to late will it stain? I would probably use paper towel to wipe with so as not too ruin a towel. I hope admin answers this question.

          • It’s just vinegar. You can leave it on. It won’t stain. I would spray it on, leave it on while you clean the rest of the bathroom, then wipe the shower last.

  2. What are the ratios for the ingredients

  3. Can I use lemon essential oil instead.

    • I’m sure. I think the only benefit to the orange oil is to make it smell good, so you should be able to use whatever smell you want.

  4. where can I find tea tree oil ?

  5. Soap scum and such that you hate cleaning… try a magic eraser. I used it on my bathtub and it’s pretty amazing 🙂

  6. I see the picture includes mold on popcorn type ceiling,. How do you clean that? I have this problem on the marriage ceiling of my manufactured home

  7. I live in a tropical climate where mould grows on everything in wet season due to high humidity, I cleaned down all walls and doors with a basic cleaning detergent , then went over the area again with plain warm water and clove essential oil. The mould has not returned since, that was over five years ago!
I used the entire small bottle to 3/4 full normal household bucket of warm water , it goes along way and covered a big area .

  8. I also have a bathroom in the basement with no window. There is wallpaper on the walls, but it has started to come off due to the moisture. There is a fan but it doesn’t do the trick. I looked yesterday and there is mold starting to grow under the paper…so now, paper has to go. I am anxious to try your spray before I paint the walls!!

  9. I also have a shower in a bathroom with not window and no central heat and air. The caulk between the shower wall and the tub would get black mold as well as the folds in the shower curtain. My husband suggested I use an old towel and dry the walls, shower curtain, tub, and the vinyl mat then hang it over the side of the tub for the other side to dry. Everything stays clean and no mold. I also turn on a fan for a few minutes after drying everything.

  10. Could it also be used on the outside of my metal buildings? That are getting really moldy due to the humidity and rain.

  11. Young Living is very expensive and I have found other brands to be just as good and much cheaper. Just be sure to look for 100% pure and therapeutic grade and you won’t go wrong. Amazon carries any oil you can possibly want.
